Great piece Vanessa! I recall reading Chuck Palahniuk’s “Consider This” and the amount of time he spends discussing his mentor and the writing groups he was a part of in the Northwestern US. There is exceptional value in finding a craftsperson to learn from and changing from poorly facilitating a whim (or dream or hobby) into something one wants to grow into a business or a marketable craft (even if the pay is poor lol). Thank you, Brian! I didn't know that about Chuck Palahniuk, might have to check that piece out. And yes, I believe it really makes a difference in how much you grow in a relatively short amount of time. Not sure why I didn't realize it could pertain to writing sooner.
