Great post Vanessa! Appreciate your take on Carmack and the key steps to developing greater discipline in any craft. A great reminder that no one formula or approach works for all, but that drive, continual reflection, and a willingness to learn and explore new pathways yields results.
Thank you, Brian! Sometimes I feel that people like Carmack who started out as specialists in one narrow field have a bit of an advantage over me, with interests in so many things, but then again, you could say he is more of a generalist now.
Am going to check out the book
I love it!

Anyway, I do hope these lessons are universal.
Always loved reading and hearing about Carmack and id. The Lex interview is awesome.
Great summary, Vanessa, thanks.
You knew about him? I’ve never even heard the name until I decided to pick up Masters of Doom due to some recommendations.
Yes! I grew up on PC gaming in the 90s. 😊 Hard to not know about him back then.
I’m a 90s kid, too young for ultraviolent shooters back then haha. It must’ve been fun being there & playing games at the time!
